It’s Christmas day, 1863 and we’re in Cambridge, Massachusetts to interview Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” is a beautiful and powerful reminder of the power of hope and faith in dark times. This interview shares the true story behind how this song came to be written, offering hope for all who are struggling this holiday season.
Peace on earth, goodwill to men.
(This interview is a work of fiction, written by Kathryn Lee Moss. Wherever possible, Longfellow’s words have been used as recorded in his journal, letters and poetry.)

MEET THE ACTORS
Josh Richardson (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow) has been telling stories in one form or another for most of his life. He is most often seen performing or directing in many Salt Lake area theaters, including Hale Centre Theatre, where he has recently played Nathan Detroit in Guys & Dolls, Thernardier in Les Miserables, Gomez Addams in The Addams Family, Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and many more roles.
He’s also played the titular ogre in Shrek the Musical, and Elwood P Dowd in Harvey at Centerpoint Legacy Theater. When he’s not on or near a stage, he’s usually working as a digital marketing account manager for Holistic Web Presence, working in his garden, or spending time with his sons, Spencer and William, or his girlfriend, Kristi.
“It’s such a joy to be able to shift gears and join Kathryn on this project. This is my favorite Christmas song, and I’m so inspired by Longfellow. A huge thanks to Kathryn for involving me, and to you for listening! Merry Christmas!”
